Document Properties
Document properties store information about your
document. This information includes title, author, and
statistics about the document, when it was created, edited,
last accessed, etc.
Some information in the document properties dialog box is
completed automatically. However, it is easy to forget to
complete the remaining information. In that case, you can
have Word prompt you to complete document properties.
Although this information can be very useful for you, it can
also cause embarrassment if you email a copy of the document
to another person. This person can go in and see the hidden
data.
To see what information is included, try the following:
Open Word document
Go to Office Button
Click Prepare / Properties

A data section will appear at the top of the document

Very little data will display
Click the black arrow on the Document Properties button

Click the Advanced Properties for a detailed look at all the
Properties and Statistics
The Summary tab displays basic information

The General tab gives you information as to when the doc was
created, edited, or accessed

The Statistics tab gives you additional information...

Now you can see why the Document Properties can be intimidating.
