Basic Toolbars 

When using Microsoft Word you should have the two basic toolbars open at all times:  the Standard and the Formatting. 

If the toolbars disappear:

Click View
Click Toolbars

Make sure the Standard and Formatting toolbars have a check mark

If there is no check mark, click the toolbar you want to activate
The system will automatically close the toolbar drop-down menus
Check the toolbars at the top of the screen ... 

This is a shortened version of the screen, but you should have
two toolbars with icons ...

Activate new toolbars by clicking on the name of the toolbar.

Deactivate the toolbars by clicking on the check mark.
